Sweeny ISD board approves COVID-19 incentive for employees
COVID-19 Incentive

April 29, 2021 - Sweeny ISD employees will receive a COVID-19 incentive after the district’s Board of Trustees approved a one-time payout of $1,000 on Thursday.

Each full time employee of the District who was employed from the first day of in-person instruction through May 27, 2021 will receive the benefit. Substitutes, temporary workers, and employees on administrative leave will not qualify for the one-time payment.

The Board of Trustees recognizes that all District employees have been asked to perform additional duties during the pandemic, above and beyond what is normally expected for their positions.

Board President Earl Mathis said, “The board wanted to express its appreciation to our employees for their continued service to the students and school community during the difficulty of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are thankful for the outstanding work our educators do every day and how they have risen to the many challenges presented this school year.”

The District has worked collaboratively with the Board of Trustees to prioritize the need for this monetary award for the staff.  This school year, Sweeny ISD employees have joined together to provide meals to in-person and virtual students, maintain and distribute technology, build and implement instruction for in-person and virtual learners, and practice daily health measures to keep the students and staff safe.

“In light of the stress and difficulty of the pandemic, many employees could have chosen to resign during this difficult 2020-2021 school year but remained committed to the District and the students,” said Sweeny ISD Superintendent Dr. Hill.

The checks will be distributed before staff leaves for the summer break.
